Density is calculated as the number of words in the keyphrase multiplied by the frequency with which they occur together, and divided by the total number of words (including the keyword). Make sure your website loads as quickly as possible and you’ll ensure your blog ranks higher in search engines and your customers are happier. Writing good page titles is an essential skill for anyone doing SEO. The title tag is the first thing a user sees in the search results. It’s also one of the most important factors for Google to decide what the topic of a page is. The combination of these two factors makes it so essential. Want to learn more on how to be creative with your titles? Onpage optimization (AKA on-page SEO) refers to all measures that can be taken directly within the website in order to improve its position in the search rankings.

The great ranking mystery

Building a strong site architecture and providing clear navigation will help search engines index your site quickly and easily. This will also, more importantly, provide visitors with a good experience of using your site and encourage repeat visits. It’s worth considering that Google is also increasingly paying attention to user experience, including mobile optimisation and site speed. We thirst for conversation rather than being lectured. Those who merely push their message and never listen or engage usually are not as successful. So when someone comments on your blog or on your social media post, engage with them. You never know who has a website or blog. You never know who will build upon your knowledge and create their own post referencing your original post as a citation! At the beginning of a search, searchers narrow their queries, and then as the search progresses, searchers reformulate queries (often based on what results appear). Because not all links are equal, you need to be very careful when you start a link building campaign. Build links for your business, for your customers, make them relevant and associate them with great content. Your users will be happy, Google will keep you in the search results and your business will grow.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that keywords can really keep web pages focused, which is important in SEO. We look at buyer persona behavior, industry trends, competitors and more to build a list of targeted terms, and then we focus on one term per page. In doing so, we can more easily provide value to our viewers. When SEO isn’t done right it can be the cause of wasted time, money and a lot of frustration for many businesses. They might be ranking well for some keywords, but those keywords aren’t actually bringing in qualified traffic, leads or buyers. SEO is important for every website that wants to attract traffic. SEO for non-profits, in that regard, isn’t that different from SEO for other businesses. The days of self-serving, scammy, and spammy SEO are long-gone. And that’s a good thing. The ‘secret’ to success with SEO is no secret at all. Just focus on serving your audience’s needs and answering their questions in a thorough and empathetic way.

Getting SEO to take off can take time and patience

Stop marketing to audiences and instead market to customers at scale. If anyone guarantees you page 1 ranking on Google within a three-month timespan, run for the hills. As we all know, Google change their algorithm 500+ times a year, and these are the small tweaks to make user experience and results better, and these are largely unconfirmed. Then come the larger, more drastic algorithmic changes that sometimes cause a stir in the SEO industry, mainly due client sites being negatively impacted. We asked a locak SEO Specialist, Gaz Hall, for his thoughts on the matter: "Users searching for your site on Google might not necessarily want to land on your homepage."

Offer relevant, useful and original content

Search engines (and users) look to the site architecture for clues as to what pages are most important. A key factor is how many clicks from the home page it takes to reach a page e can see that descriptive, compelling search results can help motivate a click, and you can take further advantage of how the search engines are evolving the way these results are displayed. Keyword research is one of the highest return SEO activities that is essential for your marketing success. Are your customers business-to-business (B2B), business-toconsumer (B2C), or both? Do you need very different treatments for each segment? (The answer is probably yes.)
