Enter competitor’s domain on SimilarWeb.com to see where their visitors are coming from, which social networks they use and see what’s interesting for that audience. The days of self-serving, scammy, and spammy SEO are long-gone. And that’s a good thing. The ‘secret’ to success with SEO is no secret at all. Just focus on serving your audience’s needs and answering their questions in a thorough and empathetic way. Long-form content is a magnet for long tail searches. The more searchers and visitors you attract, the more you can ‘satisfy’ and the better chance you can rank higher in the long run. Search engines make a wide variety of data available that can provide detailed insight into the intent and motivation of potential customers.
Understanding Your Audience and Finding Your Niche
You’re playing in the attention game. Believe it or not, your readers have a very limited attention span. You don't need to
write at a doctorate level to rank at the top of Google. You simply need to write at a higher reading level than normal. Video provides another big opportunity for search acquisition. Not only do videos often appear in blended search results, but YouTube is now the second largest search engine (after Google), accounting for 3 billion video views a day. Most SEO firms will tell claim it takes 4 to 6 months to start seeing results. It varies wildly but that’s generally in the ballpark for most projects. Note that SEO results are cumulative & escalate over time. If you’re getting positive results after 6 months these will compound after 12 months & re-compound thereafter. The most profitable relationships I’ve entered into with businesses have lasted for over 5 years during which time their fortunes have literally exploded.
What does great content mean for Google?
It may surprise you that where your site is hosted has any impact at all
on your search engine position. However, it is one of the most important
decisions you will make – host in haste and repent at leisure. Redesigning your site gives
you the perfect opportunity to
make sure your URLs are optimized for UX and for search
engines. Your URLs play a significant role in your SEO success.
Your URLs must contain targeted and relevant keywords. Google AdWords have a brilliant – and completely free – keyword planner which allows you to search for new keyword ideas while checking out real search volumes. If you’ve got a specific idea for a blog post in mind, use the tool well before you start writing to find a few popular and relevant keywords to include. If you want to populate on the first page of Google organically and improve your SEO, patience is what differentiates the pretenders from the contenders.
SEO is ignoring all the distractions to implement the basics
Good SEO involves creating valuable content, but they are not synonyms. Many companies that have an amazing content strategy don't have always have the technical and linking aspects of SEO taken care of as well. Keywords are less often used nowadays as the first signal to indicate what your post is about, but they are still helpful to offer an overview of the topic you’re focusing on. Search engines use links to discover when new webpages have been created and to help determine how well a page should rank in their results. According to Gaz Hall, a UK SEO Consultant
: "From an SEO perspective, I never treat a piece of content as ‘complete’. There is always room for improvement with updates, additional information, and various other things that can make it more useful to visitors."
Evaluate the credibility of a website using a hands on approach
One key impact the mobile-first index and the rise of voice search could have on search engine optimisation is the transition from precise match phrases to a broader match SEO, where search engines interpret natural language more easily. What we need to
understand is that search engine optimization begins with the simplest of foundations: Create a Website that is easy to crawl, index, and match to queries people use. From that foundation we build greater complexity into our optimization methods and practices. Building an email list is important for most businesses. Email allows you to reach your customers directly, immediately, and for free. As a general rule of thumb the more words in the query the easier it is to rank for that phrase. This is certainly not an absolute but has been the case for a majority of the terms I have worked with. *If you know of examples where this theory does not hold up, please share in the comments.
